Training Log - June 14, 2007

After the thrill of the personal record time for the 5K on Saturday, I ran right into the valley on Tuesday. Long story short -- I went to see my doctor on Friday because of a "boil" on my left elbow that had been there since Monday and was warm to the touch and had developed a black center to it. I called the office about it on Thursday and I was told that they would like to see me. I thought it was just an infected spider bite but the dr. thought it might be a staph infection. He put me on antibiotics. Fast forward to Tuesday and I wake up feeling like crap. I got in the shower and started shivering. Ended up spending about 20 min. just standing under the hot water. Went thru the day still feeling less than 100%. I canceled my walk because I was not up to it. Ended the day at 10 PM and went to bed (usual time for this is about 11-11:30). Woke up the next morning feeling much better. So I guess that this wasn't the short version of the long story after all !!

Today I did my 3.05 mile walk at Creekside. They are getting ready for a blues and jazz festival there this weekend. Park looks good. There is a small carnival with rides that set itself up in the field by the veterans memorial. It was sunny today and the temp at 11AM was 78 degrees with 48% humidity. By the time I was done it was up to 81 degrees and 45% humidity. I am continuing to do a slower walk so my time was 1 hour and 18 seconds.

I have been amazed by the response at work to my fund raising letters. I have received many checks and wishes of good luck. I also got a note from someone from our Marilyn Lane office. He shared with me that he lost a friend to leukemia/lymphoma and that the doctors thought that he might have had leukemia. I never knew this about him.

I keep the notes that I get from people on the wall next to my desk at work to keep me motivated.
